OUR PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES

EKAP ACHI Foundation (EkAF) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization with major focus on reducing poverty. Since inception in 1997, EKAP ACHI Foundation has been involved in community intervention programmes.

EkAF is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and based in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.

We are envisioned on the eradication of rural poverty from project specific perspectives   encapsulated on the key frames of environment, health and governance and our mission is to empower the rural population to make informed decisions and life choices.
Our objectives include;
o    To promote the participatory involvement of rural people in their development and self-help initiatives
o    To promote and encourage the reduction of gender inequality
o    To strengthen and encourage networking among groups for exposure, education, information and communication
  • To promote and encourage sexual and reproductive health as well as HIV and AIDS intervention in communities

We carry out activities such as community mobilization, research, advocacy, trainings, project design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

EkAF has a 3-member Board of Trustees and an 8-member advisory board of seasoned professionals and experts to guide projects and programmes implementations. EkAF also has a network of consultants and volunteers who participate in the implementation of projects and programmes at the community, local, state and national levels.

We have over the past 10 years implemented a number of projects in Cross River. These projects include;

·         Sustainable rural reproductive health in Agbaragba, 2000 funded by International Family Health (IFH) through Femope Foundation
·         Sexuality education and adolescent reproductive rights, 2003 funded by IFH
·         Community change project – Public Policy Advocacy – 2004 funded by the US Embassy through the Centre for Responsive Politics
·         Community-based HIV Counseling and Testing – 2004 funded by the World Bank through the National Agency for the Control of AIDS/Femope Foundation
·         HIV and AIDS Budget Tracking and Advocacy – 2006, 2009 – 2010 funded by McArthur Foundation through Actionaid Nigeria
·         Community development projects through partnership with EU- Micro-projects Programme for six states in the Niger Delta (MPP6), 2005 - 2007
·         Monitoring and evaluation of MDGs projects and programmes in Cross River State, 2007 – 2009 with support from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs (OSSAP)
·         Establishment of Database on Donor aid to Cross River State, 2006 funded by the UNDP through the Cross River State State Planning Commission
·         Agbaragba River Bank protection programme, 2007 funded by the UNDP
·         Community-based HIV and AIDS prevention project, 2010 funded by the World Bank through the Cross River State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA)
·         Increasing Citizens’ participation in HIV and AIDS impact mitigation amongst women, 2010 with support from the Commonwealth Foundation
·         Mobilizing Youths for effective participation in the Budget Process, 2010 with support from the EU-Support to Reforming Institutions Programme (SRIP)
